Family Care Solutions, Inc. (FCS) is co-founder of the Greater Philadelphia Child Care Consortium. In 2001, local postsecondary institutions were awarded federal funding through the U.S. Department of Education — Child Care Access Means Parents In School (CCAMPIS) grant program. The Consortium was formed to make quality childcare accessible and affordable to low-income student-parents in the Philadelphia region. CCAMPIS funding was used to award childcare stipends to Pell-eligible student-parents needing early childcare and after-school care. By working together the Consortium leverage grant dollars to support a larger body of student-parents. The Consortium partnered with FCS to manage the CCAMPIS program and provide support services to student-parents. All partners in the consortium recognize the importance childcare has on student retention and recruiting, particularly among low-income students with limited support and financial resources. Although, no new grants have been awarded since 2005, FCS is hopeful that the U.S. Department of Education will offer CCAMPIS grants again in the near future.
